Abstract
This research investigates the effect of cutting conditions (speed, feed, depth of cut), cutting tool geometry (normal rake angle, approach angle) and workpiece material hardness on the machine tool life for turning processes. Also the effect of previous parameters on the cutting forces affecting the tool (main cutting force Fc, thrust force Nc) and surface roughness of the workpiece material was studied. A set of experiments were carried out to find the relationship relating HSS tool life, main cutting force, thrust force and surface roughness with the cutting parameters. Three types of workpiece materials were used in the experiments: St.44 (basic set of experiment), St.37 and St.50. Cutting forces, affecting the tool, were measured using force dynamometer, where the output signals are analyzed using Data Acquisition Card (DAC) connected to a personal computer. Based on the constructed mathematical model, a computer program was developed to determine the constants of Extended Taylor’s equation.
