Reliability of wind turbine selection for a certain site

Abstract

The present work is an endeavor towards evaluating the reliability of wind turbine. In
this context, a full survey of reliability theories has been carried out and consequently, a
computer program has been developed to calculate the reliability of any system, based
on back history.

The proposed computer program is divided in to two versions, the first deals with the
reliability calculation of any system connected in parallel and/ or series, whereas the
second version is a direct implementation of the program on wind turbines.

The attained results have share good agreement in the previous predictions and it is
expected that the use of the program can help either in optimizing the wind turbine
maintenance and selection or in ensuring high availability and reliability of wind farms.
